Meet the Little Skate

The Little Skate, also known as the Summer Skate, is one of the smallest species of skates. It is a bottom-dwell- ing fish with a flat body, wing-like fins, and a long, slender tail.

Crustaceans, amphipods, polychaetes, molluscs and fish.

Distribution

Northwest Atlantic Ocean, from southeastern Newfoundland to North Carolina.

Habitat

Shallow waters from the shore down to 100 m. Prefer sandy or gravelly habitats.
